My husband and I had been looking for a place with some land for years. It is hard to explain why, but our excuse was that we wanted a place for our kids to have the freedom to roam and explore. What we have found has been more enjoyable for our family than we ever expected.
We purchased our three acres with a home and cottage in 2010, then spent the remainder of that year fixing up our once-neglected property. We call it Rabbit Hill Ranch because of the multitude of rabbits that live here. Visitors who saw the property before the remodel can't believe the transformation. The real reason that Rabbit Hill Ranch is so special though is not because of the buildings, but rather the storybook setting and sense of tranquility that it invokes for all that visit. The main house and cottage were specially positioned to have dramatic views of the beautiful Gird Valley. The 1,000 foot deck sits above an extensive herb garden and a grove of 150+ fruit trees. We have added footpaths and points of interest throughout the property to be explored. Our goal is to have "destination spots" throughout the property designed by each family member. Mine has already been created. It is located under the giant purple Jacaranda and Olive tree canopies, where the trees form a sun-sparkled cave. From here, one can leisurely view the scenery reminiscent of the Tuscan countryside by day or enjoy a meal by the twinkling lights at night.
One of our favorite things to do at the Ranch is to sit on one of the many rocking chairs and look out at the view. We laugh because it is what you would typically think of someone doing when they are "retired", but we have now grown to understand why someone might spend their hours sitting on their front porch rocker.
We are so thankful for this place and truly believe that it is a blessing from God. Our desire is to share this place with others. We have a heart for hospitality, so naturally, everything we have designed we have planned with entertaining in mind. Our desire is to provide a place for people to get away for a weekend of uninterrupted time to craft or just relax.
